                            About Josh Rouse

                            Picture
Josh Rouse is a writer from Topeka, Kan. He is an outdoors enthusiast and has worked for several local publications, including the Topeka Capital-Journal, seveneightfive Magazine and the Washburn Review, a student-run newspaper at Washburn University.

Rouse's interest in journalism was sparked in high school, where he began his career as the assistant sports editor for the Seaman High School Clipper during his junior year. He became sports editor his senior year and went on to win First Place in Newspaper Sports Writing in the Kansas Scholastic Press Association's 5A/6A Emporia Regionals.

Rouse began his collegiate career at Kansas State University, working for the KSU Collegian as a freelance news writer for one semester before transferring to Washburn University in the spring of 2007.  Late in the semester, he joined the Review staff as an arts and entertainment freelance writer and quickly found a niche. In the fall of 2007, Rouse was named the arts and entertainment editor. That year, the Review won the prestigious Pacemaker Award, and Rouse won honorable mention awards at the KACP conference for review writing and infographics. His section, the Argo, also won an honorable mention award. The next year, Rouse received several more individual awards from the KACP, including first place for sports column writing, second place for review writing and honorable mention for feature photography. In 2010, Rouse won third place awards for special section design for the Argo and copy editing at KACP during his tenure as the Washburn Review's sports editor. The Washburn Review Online, where Rouse also served as assistant web editor, was also nominated for the prestigious Pacemaker Award. Rouse served in public relations roles with the Dick Vitale Comes to Washburn committee as Media Director and in the Mass Media Banquet planning committee, where he helped sell a record-breaking 144 tickets as a member of the publicity committee.

Rouse is in his senior year at Washburn, where he is majoring in mass media with emphases in media writing & publishing and public relations, with a minor in sociology. He spent the 2010-11 school year as Online Editor-in-Chief for the Washburn Review, and is currently a copy editor for the Review and photo editor for the Kaw Yearbook. He also received six awards for his work from the KACP conference: first place in individual online newspaper, second place in news photography, second place in interior page design, third place in sports feature writing, honorable mention in sports news writing and honorable mention for yearbook sports season writing.
